Atlanta Gladiators Complete Season Sweep of Greensboro Gargoyles With 3–2 Victory

The Atlanta Gladiators defeated the Greensboro Gargoyles 3–2 on Sunday afternoon at First Horizon Coliseum, completing a season sweep of the Gargoyles.

Atlanta set a new season high with 45 shots on goal in the victory while goaltender T.J. Semptimphelter made 31 saves to secure the win.

The matchup marked the final game of a three-games-in-three-days stretch for the Gladiators.

Strong Start but Scoreless First Period

Atlanta wasted little time generating opportunities, earning a power play just 16 seconds into the game after Trevor Zins was called for delay of game.

Although the Gladiators were unable to convert on the early advantage, they maintained offensive pressure throughout the opening period, outshooting Greensboro 17–9.

Goaltender Ruslan Khazheyev kept the game scoreless through the first intermission with several key saves.

Cipollone, Young Give Atlanta the Lead

The Gladiators broke through early in the second period when Joey Cipollone scored his 13th goal of the season 2:27 into the frame. Cipollone finished a backhand shot from the left wing with assists from Kalan Lind and Nolan Orzeck.

Atlanta doubled its lead roughly three minutes later when Alex Young scored his 23rd goal of the season. Orzeck and Andrew Jarvis recorded the assists.

The Gladiators continued to control play in the period, outshooting Greensboro 16–11.

Walther Goal Extends Lead

Atlanta added to its advantage early in the third period when Isak Walther tipped in a shot from Mike McNamee 3:31 into the period. Austin Roest also assisted on the play, extending his point streak to three games with two goals and three assists during that span.

The goal gave the Gladiators a 3–0 lead.

Gargoyles Rally Late

Greensboro began its comeback attempt midway through the third period when Patrick Newell scored at 9:13 after collecting a rebound off a shot by Dalton Skelly.

The Gargoyles added another goal with 41 seconds remaining in regulation when Zach Faremouth scored with the net empty. The play was reviewed before being confirmed as a goal.

Despite the late push, Atlanta held on to secure the 3–2 victory.

By the Numbers

Semptimphelter stopped 31 of 33 shots in the win, while Khazheyev finished with 42 saves on 45 shots.

Atlanta finished 0-for-3 on the power play and successfully killed all three Greensboro power-play opportunities.

With the victory, the Gladiators completed a season sweep of the Gargoyles after previously defeating Greensboro 3–0 on Jan. 3 and 6–3 on Feb. 3.
