A Quick Start Sets the Tone
Clemson wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring early on a 55-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cade Klubnik. With only 1:31 off the clock, the Tigers were already up 7-0. NC State, with true freshman quarterback CJ Bailey at the helm, struggled to respond. Though Bailey connected with wide receiver Kendrick Raphael on a few short passes, the Wolfpack couldn’t gain enough ground to put points on the board. Clemson's defense applied relentless pressure, forcing NC State into difficult positions early on.
Clemson's Offense on Fire
Clemson continued their offensive onslaught with running back Phil Mafah breaking out for a 34-yard run, putting the Tigers in great field position. Klubnik then connected with Antonio Williams on a 31-yard pass to extend the lead to 14-0. As NC State’s struggles continued, Clemson’s defense forced a fumble, leading to another touchdown and a 21-0 lead.
By the end of the first quarter, the Tigers had surged to a 28-0 advantage, showcasing their dominance on both sides of the ball. NC State managed to string together a few short gains but ultimately couldn’t capitalize, leaving Clemson in complete control.
Wolfpack Struggles to Keep Up
As the second quarter began, NC State’s defense finally managed to force a punt, giving the Wolfpack a brief glimmer of hope. CJ Bailey showed flashes of potential, powering through Clemson’s defense with his legs. Thanks to a couple of uncharacteristic fouls by the Tigers, NC State found themselves within striking distance, putting their first points on the board.
Despite this brief surge, Clemson quickly regained control. A methodical drive down the field ended with another touchdown, pushing the lead to 35-7. NC State's offense failed to respond, and Clemson took advantage once more, entering halftime with a commanding 42-7 lead.
Second Half: Clemson’s Future Shines
The second half saw NC State add a touchdown thanks to back-to-back pass interference calls, but the game was far out of reach. Clemson’s offense remained explosive, and with a comfortable lead, the Tigers gave backup quarterback Christopher Vizzina some game experience. This move underscored just how dominant Clemson had been, as they cruised with a 52-14 lead by the end of the third quarter.
To close out the third quarter, Clemson’s Ashton Hampton intercepted Bailey for a pick-six, extending the lead to 59-14. The fourth quarter began with the Tigers in full control, though NC State managed to score on a long drive, bringing the final tally to 59-35. Despite NC State’s resilience, the game was never in doubt.
