Georgia Tech Athletics Brand Soars After Breakout 2025-26
By Pretty Girls Media Sports Staff
THE FLATS — Georgia Tech athletics is entering the 2026-27 academic year with more than competitive momentum. The Yellow Jackets are also experiencing a significant rise in national and global brand recognition following a breakthrough 2025-26 season.
The growth was especially evident in Georgia Tech football, which produced its strongest season in more than a decade while generating billions in earned media exposure and attracting millions of television viewers.
During the 2025 football season, Georgia Tech opened the year 8-0 for the first time since 1966, climbed as high as No. 7 in the national rankings and finished with nine regular-season victories. The Yellow Jackets also finished the season ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 2014.
That success translated into unprecedented attention for the Georgia Tech brand.
Georgia Tech Football Generates Billions in Media Reach
Across its 13-game 2025 season, Georgia Tech football generated an estimated 44.8 billion in earned media reach.
Earned media refers to exposure generated through news coverage, social media conversations and other public attention rather than paid advertising or direct promotional efforts.
The figure represents more than five times the world's population, underscoring the scale of attention surrounding the Yellow Jackets during their breakout campaign.
That exposure carried an estimated $200.4 million in advertising equivalency value, representing what Georgia Tech would have spent to generate a comparable amount of exposure through paid advertising.
The growth has accelerated since head coach Brent Key took over the program.
Since 2022, Georgia Tech football's earned media reach has increased 276%, while its advertising equivalency value has risen 1,328%.
Television Viewership Adds to the Momentum
Georgia Tech's rise was not limited to headlines and social media.
The Yellow Jackets also experienced a significant increase in television viewership during the 2025 season.
Across 10 games televised on Nielsen-rated networks, Georgia Tech football reached 33.8 million viewers, ranking second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and among the top 20 programs nationally in total viewership.
The number represents a 257% increase in viewership since 2023, providing another indication that interest in Georgia Tech football is expanding beyond its traditional fan base.
The combination of on-field success, television exposure and digital engagement has created an increasingly visible national profile for the program.
Yellow Jackets See Growth Across Social Media
Georgia Tech's athletic programs also experienced year-over-year growth across social media platforms.
The biggest increases included:
Georgia Tech baseball Instagram: Up 41.2%
Georgia Tech softball Instagram: Up 14.8%
Georgia Tech football Facebook, Instagram and X: Up 13.4%
Georgia Tech athletics Facebook, Instagram and X: Up 10.3%
Georgia Tech men's basketball Facebook, Instagram and X: Up 7.9%
Georgia Tech volleyball Instagram: Up 7.1%
The numbers demonstrate that the Yellow Jackets' growing visibility extends beyond football and into multiple Georgia Tech programs.
Fans Playing a Major Role in Brand Growth
Georgia Tech Vice President and Director of Athletics Ryan Alpert credited the Yellow Jackets' competitive success and fan engagement for helping expand the program's reach.
As Georgia Tech continues to build its national profile, the relationship between athletic performance and fan engagement has become increasingly important.
Every television audience, article view, social media interaction and piece of digital content contributes to the overall visibility of the Yellow Jackets.
That visibility can also influence prospective student-athletes, recruits, media coverage and potential business partners as Georgia Tech works to establish itself as one of the most recognizable brands in college athletics.
Full Steam Ahead for Georgia Tech Athletics
The growing brand comes as Georgia Tech continues its Full Steam Ahead fundraising initiative, a $500 million campaign designed to position Yellow Jackets athletics to compete for championships at the highest level.
The initiative includes plans for transformative improvements across the athletic department, including renovations to:
Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field, the historic home of Georgia Tech football.
Zelnak Basketball Center, the practice and training facility for Georgia Tech basketball.
O'Keefe Gymnasium, home of Yellow Jackets volleyball.
The campaign will also provide program-wide operational support and fund additional projects designed to advance Georgia Tech athletics.
The combination of competitive success, rising media exposure, increased viewership, stronger social engagement and major facility investments points toward an athletic department attempting to build long-term momentum rather than capitalize on a single successful season.
Georgia Tech's Brand Enters a New Era
The 2025-26 athletic year provided Georgia Tech with something it had been working toward for years: measurable evidence that the Yellow Jackets' national profile is growing.
Football's historic start helped drive much of that momentum, but the broader numbers show that the impact extends across the athletic department.
With increased television audiences, expanding social media communities and a major investment in facilities and operations, Georgia Tech enters 2026-27 with an opportunity to turn its recent surge in attention into sustained national relevance.
For the Yellow Jackets, the challenge now is not simply generating attention.
It is building on it.
