Georgia Tech Powers Past Florida State 72-60 to Advance in ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament
DULUTH, Ga. — Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women's basketball controlled the pace early and never let up, defeating the Florida State Seminoles women's basketball 72-60 on Wednesday in the opening round of the 2026 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament at Gas South Arena.
With the win, the No. 11-seeded Yellow Jackets advance to the second round, where they will face the No. 6 seed Virginia Tech Hokies women's basketball on Thursday evening.
Georgia Tech leaned on efficient shooting, balanced scoring and defensive pressure to secure the victory, leading for all but 55 seconds of the contest.
Georgia Tech Sets the Tone Early
Florida State opened the game with a quick 4-0 lead, but Georgia Tech quickly responded with a 10-0 run that shifted the momentum. From that moment forward, the Yellow Jackets dictated the tempo.
A three-pointer from Ariadna Termis pushed Georgia Tech’s lead to 19-8 late in the first quarter as the Yellow Jackets threatened to pull away early. Florida State answered with a late push, closing the period on an 8-3 run to trim the deficit to 22-16.
Still, Georgia Tech maintained control.
Second Quarter Momentum
Florida State briefly cut the lead to three points early in the second quarter, but Georgia Tech’s ability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities and get to the free-throw line helped extend the advantage again.
The Yellow Jackets entered halftime with a 39-29 lead after consistently converting at the stripe and executing efficiently in the half court.
Georgia Tech would finish the game shooting 46.9 percent from the field while knocking down 22 of 26 free throws, numbers that proved decisive.
Balanced Scoring Leads the Way
Four Georgia Tech players delivered key contributions in the victory.
La’Nya Foster led the Yellow Jackets with 18 points and eight rebounds, providing a steady interior presence.
Erica Moon added 17 points and seven assists, directing the offense while creating scoring opportunities throughout the game.
Talayah Walker finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Ariadna Termis contributed eight points, including the early three-pointer that helped spark Georgia Tech’s first-quarter run.
The Yellow Jackets also held a 37-33 rebounding advantage and forced 21 Florida State turnovers, turning defensive pressure into scoring opportunities.
Seminoles Struggle to Find Offensive Rhythm
Florida State, the No. 14 seed, struggled to find consistent offense throughout the contest.
Sydney Bowles led the Seminoles with 16 points, while Pania Davis and Solè Williams each added eight points.
As a team, Florida State shot 37.1 percent from the field and struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 4 of 20 three-point attempts (20 percent).
The Seminoles showed flashes of momentum but were unable to sustain scoring runs long enough to seriously threaten Georgia Tech’s lead.
Closing the Door
Georgia Tech extended its lead to 14 points in the third quarter and never allowed Florida State to come closer than seven points in the final period.
Down the stretch, the Yellow Jackets maintained their composure. Foster, Moon and Brianna Turnage combined for an 11-6 run over the final four minutes to seal the victory and secure Georgia Tech’s advancement in the tournament.
What’s Next
With the win, Georgia Tech moves on to face Virginia Tech in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
If the Yellow Jackets can replicate Wednesday’s balanced scoring and defensive pressure, they could present a challenge for one of the tournament’s higher seeds as postseason play continues.
