Skyhawks host youth mentorship event at West Clayton Elementary

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Members of the College Park Skyhawks organization visited West Clayton Elementary School on Friday for a youth mentorship event focused on leadership and character development for students in third through fifth grades.

Players, coaches and basketball operations staff participated alongside members of the team’s Southside Crew performance group. The event marked the second consecutive year the organization has held a mentorship program at the school.

Students took part in rotating workshops that combined classroom-style leadership sessions with movement-based clinics. Activities included discussions centered on confidence, teamwork and decision-making, as well as basketball and dance instruction.

Fifth grade boys began the day with a character development workshop alongside Skyhawks players and coaches, while third, fourth and fifth grade girls participated in a dance clinic led by team staff, Southside Crew members and volunteers. The groups later rotated activities, with the boys joining a basketball clinic and the girls participating in a leadership session.

School administrators and team representatives said the event was designed to provide positive role models and encourage students to develop leadership skills.

The mentorship day is part of the Skyhawks’ ongoing partnership with West Clayton Elementary through the team’s “Colli’s Classroom” school adoption program. According to the organization, the program includes school-year activities such as supply donations, physical education visits, reading events and family engagement initiatives.
