Skyhawks Show Flash, But Rust and Runs Cost Them in Return to the Court

Wow… that was a tough one, Skyhawks fans.

College Park Skyhawks

After a 10-day break, College Park came back to action tonight, and you could feel the early energy—but you could also feel the rust. The Skyhawks came out firing, dropping 32 points in the first quarter and looking like they were ready to run Long Island right out of the building. Seven different guys scored, the ball was moving, and the vibes were high.

But then… the Nets punched back, and it felt like we never fully recovered.

Let’s start with the bright spots—because yes, there were some big ones:

Asa Newell. The Hawks rookie stepped into his Skyhawks debut and wasted absolutely ZERO time showing off why Atlanta picked him.
19 points on 7-of-10 shooting? 3-of-4 from deep?? The kid looked smooth, confident, and honestly brought a spark this team needed. If this is the preview of what’s coming, we’re in for a fun season.

Caleb Houstan was right behind him, dropping 18 points and showing he can be a reliable two-way bucket. Between him and Newell, the future feels real bright.

The problem? Long Island caught fire—and stayed there.
A 15–2 run in the second quarter shifted everything, and College Park just couldn’t claw all the way back. Even when the Skyhawks cut it to single digits in the third, the Nets responded with another big push. Malachai Smith came off their bench with 24, and two guys dropping double-doubles didn’t help our cause either.

Final result: 125–101 … and yeah, it stings.

But listen—this was the first of THREE games in four days. The Skyhawks are right back at it with a Delaware double-header on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29. Plenty of room to bounce back, tighten the rotations, and shake off that post-break rust.

If Asa and Caleb keep looking like this?
If we can string together four full quarters?
College Park might just surprise a lot of people.

Let’s regroup. Let’s reload.
The season is young—and this squad has too much talent to stay at the bottom for long.

On to the Blue Coats. Let’s fly, Skyhawks. 🦅💨
