Texas A&M University | Ranking in NCAA Top 25
Football is vastly approaching! Dust off those Maroon and White Aggie gameday shirts as the
countdown to flood Kyle Field has begun. It is time to emphasize that Aggie pride as Texas
A&M is set to take the field in their season opener on September 2, 2023. Of course, before we
get ahead of ourselves there are some things to talk about surrounding the Maroon and White this
season. Top of that list is the hype surrounding Noah Thomas. A 6’6 Sophomore Wide Receiver
from Pearland, Texas has the media and fans roaring heading into the 2023 season.
Head Coach Jimbo Fisher did not shy away from letting CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd know exactly
how impressed he was with his offensive team, more in particular Thomas during the duration of
spring ball. As he called Thomas the ‘MVP of the Spring’. Noting that he was “phenomenal”
during the spring; and with the help of other talented receivers like Evan Stewart and Moose
Muhammad there will be nothing short of exceptional plays for QB Conner Weigman. The
Aggies also reveal a Running Back trio that will enhance the run game but also give leeway for
ball catches. Fisher made it known that all the backs can catch the ball, and have an
extraordinary amount of talent. With all that talk it sure does give College Station a reason to get
a little enthusiastic.
Now, it must feel like all this talk can easily fall short when reviewing the recent 2023 AFCA
Coaches Poll for the top 25 football programs with the Aggies ranked at No. 25. Let’s just
remember that this Poll is simply a matter of opinion- not facts. Ahead of A&M of course are the
two- time defending champions Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Ole Miss, and Texas
Tech, to name a few. Texas A&M had a total of 196 points that narrowly got them ranked at No.
25. Some teams could be agreed upon as being ranked too high, while others are ranked too low.
The matter of the poll is to give an idea of how the Coaches see the competition moving into the
season.
One would say that even making this list as an Aggie fan is an accomplishment after coming off
of a 5-7 season. It is a statement that no matter what the Aggies are still in the race as contenders,
and rightfully so. The Aggies have ranked No. 4 nationally which equates to 73% in the Bud
Elliott’s blue-chip ratio. That ratio measures how many blue-chip recruits are currently on a team
roster compared to non-blue-chip recruits. The Aggies have also only lost three players from the
past season, and have brought back their top contributors to the team. With this being the case
they have ranked No. 7 nationally per ESPN for returning production.
Having all this combined it definitely ramps up the scale of eliteness this team has going into the
year. Either way, it will be all up to the Maroon and White to make a statement this season. After
what was seen at the latest spring open practice, rest assured that the Aggies will be making
some noise this year.
