Washington Commanders’ Daron Payne Suspended One Game
NEW YORK — November 10, 2025 — The NFL announced today that Washington Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne has been suspended one game without pay for unsportsmanlike conduct during Sunday’s matchup against the Detroit Lions.
In the second quarter, Payne was disqualified for striking Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 — which covers actions contrary to sportsmanship, including throwing a punch or forearm — and Rule 12, Section 2, Article 14(d), which prohibits striking or swinging at an opponent’s head or neck area.
Payne will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, November 17, following Washington’s November 16 game in Madrid against the Miami Dolphins.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Payne has the right to appeal the suspension. Any appeal will be reviewed by Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, the jointly appointed hearing officers for on-field player discipline.
