Washington’s Frankie Luvu Suspended One Game for Repeated Safety Violations

NFL

November 3, 2025 – Washington, D.C. — The NFL has officially suspended Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu for one game without pay following multiple violations of player safety rules.

Luvu’s latest infraction occurred during Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, where he executed a hip-drop tackle during the first quarter — a move the league has been working to eliminate due to its potential to cause lower-body injuries.

According to the NFL’s rulebook (Rule 12, Section 2, Article 18), a foul is committed when a defender “grabs or wraps the runner and then unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips or lower body, landing on or trapping the runner’s legs below the knees.”

This marks Luvu’s third offense of the 2025 season involving the same type of tackle. He was previously fined for similar plays in Week 4 and Week 8.

The Commanders’ linebacker will be eligible to return to the team’s active roster on Monday, November 10, after Washington faces the Detroit Lions on November 9.

Under the terms of the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, Luvu has the right to appeal the suspension. Any appeal will be reviewed by one of the league’s jointly appointed hearing officers — Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson.

This suspension highlights the NFL’s continued commitment to player safety and its zero-tolerance stance on techniques that put players’ health at risk.
