WNBA All-Star Weekend Adjusts Rosters as Clark, Sabally Ruled Out Due to Injuries
The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game will proceed Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse without its biggest draw, as Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has been ruled out due to a groin injury that will prevent her from participating in any All-Star weekend activities.
Clark, who topped the fan voting and was named a team captain alongside Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, was also scheduled to compete in the 3-point contest. Her absence marks a significant blow to the marquee event, which celebrates the league's midseason showcase in Indianapolis.
The injury adjustments don't end with Clark. Phoenix Mercury forward Satou Sabally will also miss the festivities due to an ankle injury, forcing Team Clark to undergo substantial roster reconstruction. Washington Mystics guard Brittney Sykes and Atlanta Dream forward Brionna Jones have been named as replacements for the injured stars.
Team Collier has undergone its own roster changes after Atlanta Dream guard Rhyne Howard suffered a left knee injury during the Dream's July 11 matchup against the Fever. The Dream organization has confirmed Howard will remain sidelined through the remainder of July. Minnesota Lynx guard Kayla McBride steps in as Howard's replacement.
Despite the notable absences, Saturday's All-Star Game promises to showcase the league's elite talent. Team Clark will feature a formidable starting lineup with Fever forward Aliyah Boston, New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu, and Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson anchoring the squad. The roster includes rising stars like Seattle Storm forward Gabby Williams and established veterans such as Aces guard Jackie Young.
Team Collier boasts equally impressive star power with captain Napheesa Collier leading a starting five that includes Liberty forward Breanna Stewart, Dream guard Allisha Gray, Storm forward Nneka Ogwumike, and Wings guard Paige Bueckers. The team's depth features standout performers like Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese and Sparks guard Kelsey Plum.
The All-Star Game represents the official halfway point of the 2025 WNBA season, highlighting the league's continued growth and competitive balance. While Clark's absence will undoubtedly disappoint fans who voted her as the top vote-getter, the event still promises to deliver high-level basketball entertainment.
Saturday's game tips off at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on ABC, ensuring widespread coverage of the league's premier showcase event despite the last-minute roster adjustments.
