Gladiators Sign Defenseman Owen Murray
DULUTH, Ga. — The Atlanta Gladiators announced Wednesday via the team's YouTube channel that the club has signed defenseman Owen Murray for the 2026-27 season.
Murray signs his first professional contract with the Gladiators after a four-year collegiate career at UMass, where he recorded 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points in 126 games. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound defenseman posted four goals and six assists for 10 points with a plus-12 rating in 34 games as captain of the Minutemen in 2025-26. His plus-12 rating led all UMass defensemen last season.
Before UMass, the 24-year-old native of Decker, Manitoba, spent two seasons in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers from 2020 to 2022, scoring nine goals and 29 assists for 38 points in 97 career games. He was named an alternate captain during his final junior season with Green Bay in 2021-22.
"Owen is a smooth skating defenseman with an incredibly high compete level," Gladiators head coach and director of hockey operations Matt Ginn said. "He uses his skating and tenacity to defend hard, take away time and space and break pucks out. His feet allow him to jump into the rush and compliment the offense as well."
Ginn also praised Murray's leadership, noting that he served as captain at UMass last season and has been described by those around the program as a strong leader both on and off the ice.
Murray joins Max Neill, Connor Caponi, Kyle Pow, Anthony Cipollone, Joey Cipollone, Jack Blake, Stephen Calisti, Ryan Nolan, Kirklan Irey, Sam Tremblay, Mickey Burns, Ethan Strang, Corson Hopwo, Andrew Jarvis, Josh Winquist, Mike McNamee, Branden Troock, Mason Ward, Brendan Less, Colton Friesen, Jordan D'Intino, Adam Eisele and Ryan Conroy as players who have signed with the Gladiators for the 2026-27 season.
