Renovated Phoenix Facility Expands Community Access with New Courts, Learning Spaces and Public Art

PHOENIX — April 2, 2026 — The National Collegiate Athletic Association, alongside Dove, local leaders and the Phoenix Final Four Local Organizing Committee, celebrated the revitalization of the Washington Activity Center as part of the 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four Legacy Project presented by Dove.

Located in Phoenix’s Alhambra Village, the Washington Activity Center serves more than 18,000 residents annually. The newly completed renovations are designed to expand multigenerational access and provide enhanced opportunities for recreation, education and community engagement.

Facility Upgrades and Community Impact

The transformation introduces a wide range of new and upgraded amenities, including:

  • Refurbished indoor and outdoor basketball courts

  • A dedicated literacy lounge

  • A fully equipped computer lab

  • An e-sports lounge

  • A custom mural by local artist Martin Moreno

The Legacy Project, an annual NCAA initiative, aims to create long-lasting community benefits in Final Four host cities. The Washington Activity Center renovation reflects a collaborative effort between the NCAA, Dove, the Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority, the City of Phoenix and the Phoenix Final Four Local Organizing Committee.

Beyond athletic improvements, the addition of educational and digital spaces allows the center to serve residents of all ages year-round, fostering learning, connection and inclusive community programming.

Community-Inspired Art Installation

A key feature of the renovation is a newly unveiled mural by Martin Moreno, a Phoenix-based muralist, sculptor and painter. The artwork reflects the history and identity of the Alhambra Village neighborhood and was developed through collaboration with community members and Washington Activity Center staff.

Looking Ahead to the Women’s Final Four

The 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four will take place in downtown Phoenix, with semifinal games scheduled for Friday, April 3, and the national championship on Sunday, April 5 at Mortgage Matchup Center.

“The Women’s Final Four is not only a celebration of excellence on the court, but also an opportunity to create meaningful impact in the host community,” said Lynn Holzman, NCAA Vice President of Women’s Basketball. “This project ensures that Phoenix families will benefit long after the final game is played.”

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs emphasized the broader significance of the initiative, noting that investments like the Washington Activity Center help strengthen neighborhoods and create lasting opportunities for young people.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego added that the revitalized facility will provide expanded opportunities for recreation, learning and connection for residents across the city.

Legacy Beyond the Game

The Phoenix Final Four Local Organizing Committee, in partnership with the NCAA and community stakeholders including Arizona State University, is focused on delivering a championship experience that extends beyond the court through community-driven initiatives like the Legacy Project.

Dove, through its Self-Esteem Project, continues to support efforts that promote confidence, inclusion and access for young people and families.
