Purdy, Lloyd, Rodgers Named NFC Players of the Week for Week 2
NEW YORK — San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, Carolina Panthers linebacker Devin Lloyd and Minnesota Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers were named the NFC's Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for games played in Week 2 of the 2026 season, Sept. 17 and Sept. 20-21.
Offense: Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
Purdy completed 20 of 22 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns, posting a 149.1 passer rating and adding a rushing touchdown in San Francisco's 35-13 win over Miami. He became the first player in NFL history to complete at least 90% of his pass attempts, throw for at least 285 yards and two touchdowns, and score a rushing touchdown in the same game.
It's Purdy's third career Offensive Player of the Week award, following honors in Week 11 of 2023 and Week 16 of 2025. He joins Pro Football Hall of Famers Steve Young, a 12-time winner, and Joe Montana, an eight-time winner, as the only San Francisco quarterbacks to earn the award at least three times. Purdy is also the only former Iowa State player to win multiple Offensive Player of the Week awards.
Defense: Devin Lloyd, Carolina Panthers
Lloyd recorded nine tackles, three passes defensed, two tackles for loss and two interceptions — including a 16-yard interception return for a touchdown — in Carolina's 34-3 win at Atlanta. He became the fifth linebacker since 1982, when the individual sack became an official statistic, to record a sack and two interceptions, including a pick-six, in the same game.
It's Lloyd's second career Defensive Player of the Week award, following a Week 4 honor in 2025 with Jacksonville, and his first with Carolina. He is the eighth Panthers linebacker to win the award and the first since Frankie Luvu in Week 8 of 2023. Lloyd is also the first former Utah player to win multiple Defensive Player of the Week awards.
Special Teams: Isaiah Rodgers, Minnesota Vikings
Rodgers blocked a field goal attempt late in the fourth quarter to preserve Minnesota's 6-3 lead in a 9-3 win at Chicago.
It's Rodgers' second career Player of the Week award, following a Defensive Player of the Week honor in Week 3 of 2025, and he becomes the first defensive back to win Special Teams Player of the Week for the Vikings. Rodgers is also the only former University of Massachusetts player to win a Player of the Week award.
