NFL Unveils Massive 2026 Schedule Packed With Global Matchups and Prime-Time Storylines
NEW YORK (May 14, 2026) — The NFL officially released its full 2026 regular-season schedule Thursday night, unveiling an 18-week slate loaded with international games, Super Bowl rematches and some of the league’s biggest stars in marquee television windows.
The 2026 season will begin Sept. 9 with the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks hosting the New England Patriots at Lumen Field in a rematch of Super Bowl LX.
From there, the league immediately shifts into history-making territory.
NFL’s Global Expansion Reaches Another Level
The NFL’s international push takes center stage in 2026 with a record nine games played across four continents, seven countries and eight stadiums.
The most groundbreaking moment comes Sept. 10 when the Los Angeles Rams face the San Francisco 49ers at Melbourne Cricket Ground in the first regular-season NFL game ever played in Australia.
The league will also debut regular-season games in:
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Paris, France
Melbourne, Australia
Meanwhile, London continues to be a staple of the NFL calendar with three games scheduled across Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley Stadium.
The international slate further reinforces the league’s aggressive global growth strategy as the NFL continues expanding its footprint outside the United States.
Prime-Time Matchups Dominate the Early Schedule
Week 1 alone delivers several headline matchups.
Opening weekend includes:
Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants on Sunday Night Football
Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football
Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles in a major NFC East showdown
The schedule also includes 13 Super Bowl rematches and 12 playoff rematches from the 2025 postseason.
One of the most anticipated games of the season arrives Thanksgiving night when the Kansas City Chiefs travel to face the Buffalo Bills in what could once again preview an AFC playoff battle.
Streaming Platforms Continue Taking Bigger NFL Role
The 2026 schedule also highlights the NFL’s continued partnership with streaming platforms.
Netflix will stream:
The Australia opener between the Rams and 49ers
A new Thanksgiving Eve game featuring Green Bay and Los Angeles
Two Christmas Day games for the third straight season
Meanwhile:
Prime Video retains Thursday Night Football
Peacock gets another exclusive regular-season game
NFL+ continues mobile streaming access
The league’s media strategy continues evolving as streaming services become increasingly central to NFL broadcasting.
Playoff Race and Super Bowl LXI Already Taking Shape
The 2026 season concludes Jan. 10 with a full slate of division matchups in Week 18, a move designed to maximize playoff implications late in the year.
The postseason format remains unchanged with 14 teams qualifying, while Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium.
With expanded international exposure, major streaming partnerships and blockbuster matchups already circled on the calendar, the NFL is clearly positioning the 2026 season as one of the league’s biggest yet.
