NFL and TMRW Sports Launch Annual Pro Flag Showcase to Open Super Bowl Week

NEW YORK and ORLANDO, Fla. — The NFL and TMRW Sports announced Monday the creation of a new annual Pro Flag Showcase, set to kick off Super Bowl week in Los Angeles. The event will spotlight top athletes from the professional flag football league currently in development by the NFL and TMRW Sports, as part of the league's broader push to feature flag football at every level throughout Super Bowl LXI week.

Showcasing the Sport's Top Talent

The Pro Flag Showcase will bring together some of the world's best flag football players, highlighting the skill and fast-paced style of play that have helped fuel the sport's rapid growth in recent years.

"With the spotlight that comes with Super Bowl week, the Pro Flag Showcase provides an opportunity to feature the athletes and highest level of competition driving flag football's future," said Brian Flinn, the NFL's senior vice president of global flag football. He said flag football's momentum continues building worldwide, and that bringing together many of the sport's top players offers a powerful way to showcase its speed, athleticism and excitement to fans globally.

Brendan Donohue, TMRW Sports' president of flag football, said the showcase gives fans an early look at many of the top players in the world ahead of the new professional league's launch. He described the event as the first opportunity to elevate the sport through its fast-paced format and expanded broadcast access, aimed at drawing in fans and educating them on what makes flag football unique.

What to Expect at the Event

The showcase will be staged at a custom-built venue in Los Angeles, with a live broadcast blending high-level competition with storytelling designed to highlight the sport's strategy and distinct style of play. NFL Pro Bowl honorees, Hall of Famers and other league legends will serve as advocates for the sport throughout the event, helping elevate its profile as part of Super Bowl week festivities.

Part of a Larger Pro Flag Football Push

The NFL and TMRW Sports previously announced plans for a new professional flag football league set to launch ahead of the sport's Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The league is expected to feature fast-paced, elite-level competition presented from the first purpose-built stadium designed specifically for flag football, with data-driven storytelling and technology aimed at immersing audiences in the sport's speed and athleticism. Organizers say the new professional tier will complete an expanding pathway for the sport spanning youth, high school, college, international and Olympic competition, creating professional opportunities for both women and men.

The league has drawn backing from a broad investor pool, including all 32 NFL club owners, institutional and strategic investors, and current and former NFL players — a group organizers say reflects confidence in the sport's long-term growth and rising global relevance.

A Sport on the Rise

Flag football's growth extends well beyond the professional level. More than 20 million people currently play the sport worldwide, with participation climbing across every level of competition. In the U.S. alone, roughly 4.1 million youth play flag football, a more than 50% increase since 2020. The sport is now offered in high schools across 40 states, and participation among young women in high school programs grew nearly 60% between 2024 and 2025. More than 250 colleges and universities nationwide now offer women's flag football programming, and the NCAA recently approved flag football as part of its Emerging Sports for Women program, with a spring vote recommending that Divisions I, II and III add a National Collegiate Flag Football Championship as early as spring 2028.
