Panthers Safety Tre’von Moehrig Suspended One Game After On-Field Incident
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig has been issued a one-game suspension without pay following an incident in Monday night’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter, when Moehrig punched 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings after the conclusion of a play. The action was deemed a violation of Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 of the NFL rulebook, which prohibits conduct that goes against the league’s standards of sportsmanship — including throwing a punch, kick, or forearm at an opponent.
As a result, Moehrig will miss Carolina’s upcoming game against the Los Angeles Rams on November 30. He will be eligible to rejoin the team’s active roster on Monday, December 1.
Under the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, Moehrig has the right to appeal the league’s decision. Should he choose to do so, the case would be reviewed by one of the neutral officers jointly appointed by the NFL and NFLPA — Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson — who oversee appeals related to on-field disciplinary actions.
More updates to come as the situation develops.
