2026 Super Bowl LX: Two MEAC Football Officiating Alumni Selected to Serve on Super Bowl Crew

Greg Steed and Roy Ellison didn't just make it to the Super Bowl — they earned every step of the journey that got them there. And it all started in the MEAC.

Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference • Norfolk, VA • Super Bowl LX

NORFOLK, Va. — When the lights shine brightest and the stakes could not be higher, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference shows up. Two of football's most respected officials — Greg Steed and Roy Ellison — served on the officiating crew for Super Bowl LX, delivering yet another landmark moment for the MEAC and proving once again that this conference produces talent that performs on the grandest stages in the sport.

This is not a coincidence. This is a pipeline.

Both men launched their officiating careers inside the MEAC. Both men carried the lessons, the discipline, and the standard of excellence the conference demands — all the way to the NFL. And both men continue to give back to the very conference that gave them their start, mentoring the next generation of officials who are walking the same road they once traveled.

The MEAC does not just develop athletes. It develops leaders.

GREG STEED: A SUPER BOWL VETERAN WHO KEEPS COMING BACK

Greg Steed was not a first-time Super Bowl official standing nervously under the bright lights. He was a seasoned veteran who has been in this position before — multiple times.

A graduate of Howard University and former Bison football player, Steed brought an athlete's understanding of the game to his officiating career from the very beginning. He launched that career in the MEAC, sharpened his craft in the Atlantic 10 and Big East conferences, and ultimately earned his place in the NFL — where he has built one of the most decorated officiating resumes in the profession.

At Super Bowl LX, Steed served as a back judge. But this was far from his first time on football's biggest stage. His Super Bowl assignments read like a highlight reel:

Super Bowl XLII (42) — Alternate Official Super Bowl XLIV (44) — On-field Back Judge Super Bowl LIV (54) — On-field Back Judge Super Bowl LX (60) — On-field Back Judge

Four Super Bowls. Three on-field assignments. That is not luck — that is excellence, recognized and rewarded repeatedly at the highest level of the sport.

And despite everything he has accomplished, Steed has never forgotten where he came from. He currently serves the MEAC as a grader, clinician, and mentor for the conference's back judges — investing his time and expertise into the development of officials who are just beginning the journey he has already mastered.

ROY ELLISON: BUILT IN THE MEAC, PROVEN ON THE BIGGEST STAGE

Roy Ellison's story carries the same DNA — MEAC roots, NFL excellence, and an unwavering commitment to giving back.

A graduate of Savannah State University and former Tigers football player, Ellison began his officiating career in the MEAC before advancing through Conference USA and into the NFL, where he has established himself as one of the league's most respected on-field officials. At Super Bowl LX, Ellison served as an umpire — a role he has now filled on football's grandest stage four times over.

His Super Bowl assignments speak for themselves:

Super Bowl XLIII (43) — On-field Umpire Super Bowl LII (52) — On-field Umpire Super Bowl LVII (57) — On-field Umpire Super Bowl LX (60) — On-field Umpire

Four Super Bowls. Four on-field assignments. An unblemished record of performance when it matters most.

Like Steed, Ellison has remained deeply connected to the MEAC — serving as a clinician and mentor for conference umpires, providing the kind of real-world, hard-earned guidance that no textbook can replicate. His presence in the lives of current MEAC officials is a gift that will continue to pay dividends long after his playing days on football's biggest stage are complete.

THE MEAC PIPELINE IS REAL

Greg Steed. Roy Ellison. Two men. Two MEAC institutions. Eight combined Super Bowl assignments between them.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has long been a launching pad for talent — on the field, on the sidelines, and now, unmistakably, on the officiating crew of the Super Bowl itself. These two men are proof that the standard of excellence the MEAC demands does not stop when the final whistle blows. It follows its alumni everywhere they go — all the way to the biggest game in football.

The MEAC congratulates Greg Steed and Roy Ellison on Super Bowl LX and on careers that continue to make the conference proud.
