Clemson Rallies Past Georgia Tech 79–76 to Close Regular Season
CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson Tigers men's basketball erased a halftime deficit and surged late to defeat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men's basketball 79–76 on Saturday night at Littlejohn Coliseum, closing the regular season with momentum heading into the ACC Tournament.
Clemson finished the regular season 22–9 overall and 12–6 in ACC play, securing the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament.
Georgia Tech controlled much of the first half behind a standout performance from guard Jaeden Mustaf, who finished with a game-high 28 points. The Yellow Jackets carried that momentum into halftime with a 39–33 lead after consistently attacking the basket and capitalizing on Clemson defensive lapses.
The Tigers responded in the second half with renewed energy on both ends of the floor.
Forward Butta Johnson and center Nick Davidson each scored 15 points to lead Clemson’s balanced offense. The Tigers gradually chipped away at the deficit with improved ball movement and timely defensive stops.
With the game tied late in the final minutes, Johnson delivered the decisive moment. The Clemson forward knocked down a clutch three-pointer with 1:38 remaining, giving the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish.
Georgia Tech continued to battle in the closing seconds, but Clemson held firm at the free-throw line and forced key defensive stops to seal the three-point victory.
The comeback win capped a strong regular season for the Tigers and secured their position in the upcoming ACC Tournament. Clemson will next take the floor on March 11 as the No. 5 seed in the conference bracket.
